Shopping on the Streets of Mysore

One thing we really enjoy about being here in Mysore is the availability of ingredients that were hard to find in Vancouver and Tarifa.  We especially like the fruit and veg carts that are on the street with the days freshest produce.

Fresh herbs, chilis, spinach, ginger & dill is common in Mysore too

We always buy our fruit from this man, he may overcharge slightly, but gives us each a free banana to take away so we are happy.  And by overcharge we are talking about paying one pound for bananas, papaya, coconut and a pineapple, definitely one of our favourite things about being here.

The carts are also wheeled about on the streets in front of the houses so you can just walk out and buy then and there, although it helps if you can decipher the Karnataka language to know if they are selling veg, carpets, plastic buckets or collecting rubbish.

And this shop seems to be the only place in Gokalum, the area of Mysore we are staying that has avocados, although they are not here yet, the season should start in 2 weeks we are told.  Still we keep checking.
I'm trying to get Adam a job while we're here

And if you are looking to buy some fireworks, they are on sale at the primary school right across the street, pretty good sign right?

  2. Hi Jacqueline,

We are here until the end of January so we're just getting going. Although we've had some massive thunderstorms, they're more mosoon than winter. Happy Divali!
